Cheers Mommy!

The Laugh

We are trying to teach my son how to drink from a cup without a lid which is more of a disaster than anything. I gave him the cup with maybe an inch of water and was a little sidetracked by my phone. A few minutes later he came running into the living room yelling "Cheers Mommy!" and of course we cheered our water cups and took a big sip. It took me a second, but I noticed his water cup was almost full, I was confused for a moment as to where he filled up his cup. I followed him as he ran away, right into the bathroom and took a big scoop of water from the toilet!  I was mortified!  Why did he have to drink the toilet water? To be honest, I didn't even know what to do. After the initial shock and figuring out it might not kill him, I wiped his face, gave him a new cup with fresh water and we moved on with the evening. I was embarrassed to tell my husband when he got home from work. His response, "Oh yeah he's done that a few times!" Gross.

The Lesson

  • Despite our best attempts, our kids will never stop surprising us!

  • As unsettling as the water source in this story is, the problem solving skills of the little guy have to be celebrated!

The Iteration (i.e., how to make it better next time)

  • Sometimes, we’re just not sure! It can be tough to outsmart a toddler!
